Examples of Investments

The RAK Foundation has made investments to assist over 120 people in the Victoria area over the past four years. Some examples of the individuals we have assisted:

Recipient Benefit Impact
11 Covered Housing and food costs ($4,620) Allowed Recipient who had lost her job to stabilize in a safe environment and recover enough to be accepted into treatment centre
41 Food card ($200) Recipient on Income Assistance could not provide food for 3 times a week visit from son, such visits deemed essential to recovery
42 Treatment Centre co-pay ($520) 48 year old severely addicted man desperately needed residential recovery program. Income Assistance only covered part of cost and RAK covered the difference
64 Travel costs: ferry, meals for Recipient and driver ($220) Recipient needed transportation from Pembroke Stabilization unit in Victoria to treatment centre in Kelowna. Volunteer driver needed, as Recipient needed supervision
38 Bus Pass ($64) Allowed recently sober Recipient to attend counselling sessions and twelve step meetings on a daily basis
21 Temporary Accommodations ($131) Enabled Recipient to stay in safe environment for two nights, in between discharge from detox facility, and admission to treatment centre
22 Treatment Centre, travel and accommodation ($2,615) Partial payment of treatment centre fees to attend 3 month program - need based on funding gap in provincial programs
33 Medication and medical treatment ($476) Covered Rx and medical treatment while staying at Holly Place treatment centre - Recipient had no medical coverage
36 Partial Treatment Centre Fees ($1,500) Family pooled resources for Recipient to attend treatment centre, but was short of total cost - RAK Contribution allowed 23 year old to attend treatment and break out of her addictive cycle
79 Furniture Storage Fees ($1,074.50) Recipient entering residential treatment, needed storage of her furniture and belongings while in treatment
73 Housing Payment ($594) Recipient attending Pacifica Treatment Centre, based on loan from employer. His short term disability expired, but six week gap before long-term disability started, so unable to retain his residence payments
