Investing in Individual Recoveries

About Us

The RAK Foundation is a private charitable foundation, incorporated under the British Columbia Society Act (Certificate of Incorporation No. 046047) in April of 2003.

The RAK Foundation applied to Canada Revenue Agency for status as a charity, and was approved in July of 2004. All donations to The RAK Foundation qualify as deductions for income tax purposes, and donors are issued numbered receipts for their contributions. The Foundation's financial statements are open to review on this website.

The RAK Foundation provides assistance to people who are sincere about their recovery, but who have encountered financial barriers that could jeopardize their continued progress.

The Foundation is empowered by a very active and committed Board of Directors. All Board Members have either struggled with addiction or have witnessed family or friends on their journey of recovery.

The Foundation receives all of its requests for assistance from approved, qualified Addictions Counsellors who work with their clients in the community. The Foundation believes that these community Addictions Counsellors are best suited to assess each client's individual needs, prior to asking the Foundation for assistance. The RAK Foundation does not accept requests directly from individuals and we rely heavily upon the trusted Addictions Counsellors with whom we work.

The RAK Foundation is a "funder of last resort", in that we will not provide assistance when that assistance can be obtained through government programs, insurance or employer benefits, or other sources such as friends, family, or personal savings. Having said that, our records are brimming with cases that demonstrate that there are definite gaps in our social support system. Investments made by The RAK Foundation have often provided crucial support, to individuals in the early fragile days of their recovery.
