Random Acts of Kindness Foundation

Investing in Individual Recoveries

Our Mission

"To provide financial assistance to individuals sincerely pursuing recovery from a substance addiction, where progress towards recovery is jeopardized by financial constraints"

To achieve this Mission, the RAK Foundation operates under the following principles:

  • The RAK Foundation does not provide financial assistance where alternate sources of funding are available, whether through government programs, other charitable organizations, or the applicants' employer or family or own resources - we are a "funder of last resort."
  • For a funding request to be approved, the Recipient of the benefit must demonstrate to an approved Counsellor that he/she has exhausted all other resources for funding. We further ask that Recipients commit to helping others with their recovery in the future.
  • RAK is not affiliated with any treatment facility, counselling service, religion or other organization.
  • RAK will operate with full disclosure and accountability to governing bodies and to Donors.
  • RAK will protect the anonymity of Recipients and Donors to the maximum extent possible.
  • RAK will ordinarily only disburse funds directly to a provider of goods and services (e.g. a landlord, an airline company, a treatment centre), not to a Recipient.
  • Counsellors may be requested to provide follow-up on the impact of a specific investment so that the RAK Foundation's funding policies can be periodically evaluated and adjusted.
  • The RAK Foundation will not directly accept requests for assistance from individuals in need. The Foundation does not have the resources to perform individual assessments and evaluation of such requests. Instead the Foundation will establish referral relationships with trusted addictions counselling organizations that employ qualified Addictions Counsellors, and all applications will come from those pre-qualified Counsellors.
  • RAK will not seek public sector funding for disbursement to Recipients, but may at the Board's discretion seek public funding to cover administrative costs.
